The `!SQL Access Group (SAG)`! was a group of `F33f`_`[software`:/page/wikibook/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_en_all_nopic_2025-08.zim|entry_path=Software]`_`f companies that was formed in 1989 to define and promote standards for database portability and interoperability. The SAG started the development of the `F33f`_`[SQL`:/page/wikibook/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_en_all_nopic_2025-08.zim|entry_path=SQL]`_`f Call Level Interface which later was published as an `F33f`_`[X/Open`:/page/wikibook/entry.mu`zim=wikipedia_en_all_nopic_2025-08.zim|entry_path=X/Open]`_`f specification.

In 1992, Microsoft released version 1.0 of ODBC which was based on the X/Open SQL CLI specification.

The SQL Access Group transferred its activities and assets to X/Open in the fourth quarter of 1994.
